How long do you press a mug in a mug press?
Place mug in heat press at the pressing temperature of 380-400F, and close the element around the mug. Press for about 4-5 minutes using medium to firm pressure. If the image begins to look blurry, or burnt brown by over-pressing, decrease pressing time by 15-30 seconds.
How long do you heat press a metal mug?
Place mug inside press. Using medium pressure, press at 370 F for 40 seconds. If you have a vertical mug press, place the mug in the press with the opening facing downward; see Tips & Troubleshooting for settings.

If the coffee mug is glazed ceramic you should be able to sublimation print without any coating at all. Your sublimation paper should have a guide on time and temperatures.

FAQs – Can I sublimate a mug twice? You can sublimate the mug any times you want. It won’t damage the mug, but remember that the existing image will ghost when it’s reheated. It is great if you want to use the mug for testing printing effect or practicing on sublimation printing.
Does HTV stay on mugs?
Turns out HTV works great on ceramic mugs too! I wouldn’t put it through a dishwasher, but it will definitely hold up to a handwashing.
Do you need a sublimation printer for Cricut mug press?
Yes! Remember when I said above that you don’t actually need a Cricut machine to use the press? If you have a sublimation printer, you can use printed images on these mugs using this press as well. I’ll be sharing more about this in an upcoming post too!
Can you use a heat press on tumblers?
Time to use your EasyPress! Make sure your EasyPress is preheated to 300 degrees. This is really important! We tested this several times and 300 degrees was found to be the best for both normal iron-on vinyl and glitter iron-on. This means that our iron on vinyl is starting to adhere well to the tumbler.
What kind of vinyl do you use on stainless steel cups?
For tumblers, you definitely want to use a permanent or outdoor vinyl. These vinyls are intended to get wet and have a longer-lasting adhesive on them. My personal favorites are Cricut and Oracal brands. Cricut calls the vinyl you want to use Premium Permanent vinyl.

In fact, using iron-on on wood, metal, and paper projects are some of my favorites because the strong bond and the thinness of the material works great for home decor projects.
What type of vinyl is best for mugs?
651 is great for mugs because of it’s permanent adhesive strength – however keep in mind it’s not considered dishwasher or microwave safe so you’ll want to hand wash. After applying 651 vinyl to a mug be sure to let it cure (sit) for about 48 hours before washing. This just lets the adhesive come to full strength.
